This weekend Jordan Sarrou claimed the 2020 XOC World Champion’s title after having literally dominated the race. The 27-year-old athlete surprised everyone thanks to the lucidity by which he managed the six laps of the circuit and the determination that brought him to a solo win with a gap of 45” to Mathias Fleuckiger, second.
Once he overtook the Dutch Vader at the end of the first lap, Sarrou remained at the front for the rest of the race, leaving behind his opponents to fight for the chase as he continued his ride towards the Worlds. The Frenchman won the gold after 1 hour, 25 minutes and 37 seconds of racing, raising up his muddy bike with pride and letting himself go to tears together with Julien Absalon, who was waiting for him at the finish line.
This victory was a surprise for everyone, even for the young new world champion who, in his first declarations, said he still couldn't believe it and that had only focused on the race all the time, almost without thinking about what result he could achieve.
Forty-eight hours later, the young winner - who rode to the WorldChampion’s title with Sidi Drako 2 - told us that after the Nove Mesto race his determination played a very important role in winning the gold.
"It's an incredible feeling" he said, "something I’m still not used to. The World Cup was a good moment to test my legs and the sensations. I knew I was fit, and the plan was to start as fast as possible and run smoothly, steadily, even if with no pressure. The head played an important role ."
Titouan Carod, Sarrou's teammate in both the national team and in the Absolute Absalon - finished third, thus closely sharing the joy of the world podium. “My first podium in a world championship in the elite category was nothing short of exciting,” he said. "Jordan's gold made this day perfect."
The World Champion also focused on the features of the Drako 2 and its behavior in the race: "It was essential to have the reliability of Sidi: the course was very muddy and technical, the Drako 2 performed very well, ensuring as always the right mix of stiffness and toughness, key qualities to manage the race without worrying. "
